SUMMARY:The Detours Symposium Series Featuring Detours-Guåhan
DESCRIPTION:Sponsors: Mellon Multivocal Humanities Funds for Ethnic Studies, Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies Program, Asian American Research Center, Asian Pacific American Student Development, Center for Race and Gender, Department of Ethnic Studies, Native American Studies Program, University of Victoria Indigenous Governance Program\nDetours: A Decolonial Guide to Guåhan reroutes readers away from thinking of “Guam” as a U.S. territory and strategic U.S. military hub in the Pacific Ocean, to instead understand Guåhan as a place deeply rooted in histories of Indigenous CHamoru culture and values that impact everyday acts of decolonization. Through art, chants, essays, photographs, poetry, and stories Detours Guåhan goes around the island to guide readers toward the decolonial practices that disrupt narratives of the island as a strategic military asset (spanning Spanish, Japanese, and continuous American colonialism). The volume expands in and beyond the divided Mariana Islands to also include understanding Guåhan from the largest CHamoru diaspora living in California.\nAdmission Information:\nIf you require accommodation for a disability in order to fully participate in this event, please contact the event organizer with as much advance notice as possible and at least 7-10 days in advance of the event.\nContact Info:\nVernadette Gonzalez vernadette@berkeley.edu\nAccess Coordinator:\nVernadette Gonzalez, vernadette@berkeley.edu\nRegistration Instructions\nUse this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd6FjQ-hoUjMgZt2-q7KxNChlu4_oktcdrRe8AHmjy6Eu1eYA/viewform  ( https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd6FjQ-hoUjMgZt2-q7KxNChlu4_oktcdrRe8AHmjy6Eu1eYA/viewform )\n
