Writer and performance artist Jason Magabo Perez conducted a writing workshop and performed his mutli-media work, “The Passion of El Hulk Hogancito” to an enthusiastic crowd of students at the Multicultural Center on December 1, 2009. The Asian American Studies Program and the Asian Pacific American Student Development co-sponsored these events. In his performance, Perez wove a coming-of-age story with the FBI’s 1970s racist criminalization of two recently-immigrated Filipina nurses (one of whom is his mother) to present a funny, complex, and moving story about growing up Filipino in America.
