3-Day Union Organizer Training

The Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), AFL-CIO Organizing Institute, and Alameda Labor Council will be holding a 3-Day Training in Oakland, California on September 5-7, 2014.

The purpose of the Organizing Institute is to train Asian Pacific Islander (API) member activists and member organizers in basic organizing skills.  If you are looking to train member activists to work on internal or external organizing campaigns, we encourage you to send your members to the training.

Where is the training and When does the Training Begin/End?

Start time: Friday, September 5 at 10:00am.  End Time: Sunday, September 7 at 12 noon at the Alameda Labor Council 100 Hegenberger Rd., Ste. 150 Oakland, CA 94621.

 

What is the fee to sponsor a participant? /What does the fee cover?

The fee to sponsor a member/participant is $125 per participant (includes training materials and the costs of meals for the weekend).  Any costs for hotel overnight stays, lost time, parking or participant travel to/from the training, is the responsibility of the sponsoring union/organization.

 

Who can send participants to this training?

Labor Organizations affiliated with the National AFL-CIO are welcome to sponsor API members to attend this training. Community organizations are also encouraged to send participants.

 

How do we sponsor participants?

Registration for the training may be completed on the OI website at http://www.AFLCIO.org/OIParticipants must be pre-registered for the training by August 22nd. Walk-in registrations will not be accepted.  All fees must be paid by August 29th, unless other arrangements are made in advance.  We are not able to accept personal checks. Checks should be made payable to the Secretary Treasurer of the AFL-CIO, to the attention of Gail Tapscott. All fees and sponsorship forms should be sent to Gail Tapscott at 815 16th St., N.W., Washington, DC 20006.

 

What about Hotel accommodations?

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Hilton Hotel 100 Hegenberger Road,Oakland, CA. at the cost of $139.00 per night room tax not included. You can make hotel arrangements directly with the hotel using the group code AFL-CIO .

After August 22nd the room rate is guaranteed only if rooms are available. Please register and make hotel reservations early to ensure space. Parking is available at the Hilton Oakland Airport at a rate of $12.75 per night.

What happens after we submit payment and sponsorship forms?

Registered participants will receive a training packet (training agenda, training materials and logistical information) sent to the email listed on their registration form about one week prior to the training.
