Phare, The Cambodian Circus presents ‘Khmer Metal’ at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center on Sunday, October 4th at 7:00 p.m.
Tickets available at http://pharecircus.org/ustour2015/.
Taking place over one evening in a grungy bar, ‘Khmer Metal’ tells stories of urban life in modern Cambodia through dance, theatre, breathtaking acrobatics and original, live music. CNN calls it an “edgy, alternative, down-to-earth, all-singing-and-dancing Cambodian circus in the tradition of Cirque du Soleil…edge-of-the-seat stuff”. It is an opportunity for American audiences to see something completely different, a truly spectacular, rousing, energizing, and sometimes surprising performance by a group of highly trained, talented artists. The artists in ‘Khmer Metal’ are graduates of Phare Ponleu Selpak, a school that provides free public education and innovative arts vocational training to over 1,200 underprivileged youth in Battambang, Cambodia.
