For more than three decades, Young Shin has worked to promote the socioeconomic status and the political participation of low- income, limited -English speaking immigrant women and other disenfranchised members of the community.  After graduating from law school in 1983, she co-founded the Asian Immigrant Women Advocates (AIWA), whose mission is to empower immigrant women through education, leadership development, and collective action. She has received numerous awards and has served on the boards of many organizations committed to justice and inclusivity, particularly with regard to the disadvantaged.  She hopes to bring her community experiences to the classroom by connecting theories to critical issues affecting immigrant women and other vulnerable communities.
